A brush fire in Mission Viejo today threatened homes before it was extinguished, a fire battalion chief said. The brushfire was reported at 3:30 p.m. next to the San Diego (5) Freeway near La Paz Road and south of Mission Viejo High School, said Battalion Chief Kris Conception of the Orange County Fire Authority. The fire burned uphill and consumed 1.6 acres of brush, Conception said.
