2. TREASURER’S REPORT:

Ken Wagoner reports that the Charity Account balance is $1,491.00 Main Checking Account balance is $1307.35 for a total of $2,798.35.  All bills are paid.

3.FPO REPORT:

  • Bruce LeCair with NFSA reported that SOCAL FPO’s hosted their meeting in LA at the Hopkins Training Center. A presentation was made by ICC and update on AFSA bill SB405 was provided to attendees. The Northern FPO’s held their “Past Presidents” meeting in Woodland where the OSFM gave a report.
  • San Diego Fire Prevention Officers will have its monthly meeting/training Wednesday March 18, 2009 at 9:30 in Poway.  Bob Scott will discuss RCFE information prior to the April RFCE training from the SFM office. The April meeting/training with be on Residential Care Facilities instructed by Ernie Paez with the SFM Office on Wednesday April 15, 2009 at 8:30 at the San Marcos Training Facility 184 Santar Place San Marcos, CA 92069 Members $25.00 non-members $35.00.contact Raquel Elias to RSVP at relias@alpine fire.org. for more information please visit SFM website at http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/ or www.sdfpo.org for San Diego Fire Prevention Officers information.

4. EDUCATION REPORT:  

The San Diego Fire Protection Association continues to sponsor the Fire Sprinkler Technology Seminar Series.  This is a monthly workshop-style seminar series intended for AHJ’s, Plan Reviewers, Field Inspectors & Designers.

Date & Location: Thursday, April 2, 2009 in the training room of Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department Station #2, 16930 Four Gee Road, Rancho Santa Fe, California.  The site can be reached by taking I-15 either north or south to Camino Del Norte, and exiting to the west until you reach Four Gee Road, and turn right.  The fire station is the first structure on the left.  Our April subject will be sway brace layouts.

NFSA: NFPA 13 Overview and Introduction to Plan Review Class being held May 26-28, 2009 at Gordon Hoyt Training Room sponsored by Anaheim Fire Department. For further information and to register please visit www.nfsa.org .

A Plan Check class will be taught by Cliff Hunter Fire Marshal for the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 8:30-11:30 at RSF Station #2 located at 16930 Four Gee Road, San Diego, CA 92127. The cost is $15.

Todd Letterman from RCFD reported that SFPE will be involved with a Science and Engineering Fair upcoming April 1, 2009 and they need engineers to participate in judging the contestants.  Contact Todd for more information.

5. BURN INSTITUTE REPORT: 

“Share Your Heart” was a great success! Upcoming events include:
  • Imperial Valley Fire Ball March 27th;
  • County-Wide Firefighters Boot Drive “Give Burns the Boot” Thursday April 16th;
  • Firefighter Night at the Padres Saturday April 24th;
  • “Spirit of Courage Awards” banquet Thursday May 21st at the Aventine in La Jolla;
  • Camp Beyond the Scars SUMMER CAMP scheduled for August 2-9, 2009 at Camp Fox. For more information visit www.burninstitute.org  Burn Run/Fire Expo/SDFPA: There are four residential fire sprinkler booths that will be at the Fire Expo at Del Mar Fair Grounds this year, one is SDFPA Residential Fire Sprinkler information, and Ronnie Coleman providing additional information on RSF located next to the Burn Institute booth. 5. OLD BUSINESS/PAST EVENTS:

  • Mike Moffat reported that fire department surveys are still moving slowly, contact via telephone is being made to respective departments and if anyone is interested in assisting with contacting the fire agencies please contact Mike. The website sdfpa.org is 50% updated feel free to visit and provide any input.
  • The SDFPA SDFD City Policy Committee met and it was a very productive meeting. Minutes and discussions are being compiled and prepared for an upcoming meeting with the City of San Diego Fire Prevention Division. Please contact John Durso at Schmidt Fire Protection with any questions or input.

6. UPCOMING EVENTS / NEW BUSINESS:

  • 03/18 SCA Joint Meeting will be held at Mr. Stocks in Anaheim. Presentation will be on Hanging/Bracing.
    04/29 NFSA Convention to be held in Orlando, FL.
  • 05/14 (Thursday) SDFPA Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the Burn Institute to be held at Carlton Oaks Golf Resort a flyer will be available soon.
  • 10/14 AFSA Convention to be held here in San Diego. SDFPA will offer assistance as needed.
  • 06/08  NFPA Convention in ChicagoCalifornia Chapter AFSA information regarding SB405 (sprinkler fitter training) copies of bill available please contact Terri Leyton.
  • SDFPA meetings at Marie Calendars to rotate menu selections monthly (turkey, meatloaf, and fish and chips).
  • Nominees for the Board of Directors are still being accepted through April. Voting to take place at the May meeting. Please consult with a nominee to ensure they want to participate prior to nominating individuals. Contact Ken Wagoner or Toby Mac Donald with nominations. A list of nominees to be provided after the April meeting, at that time there will be a decision on whether there will be 3 or 4 directors..

7. PROGRAM:
